Heavy hitting storms blast St. Louis
Thursday, July 20, 2006

Since I live in the St. Louis area, I felt like I had to share this with you!

We had one hell of a night last night. I was sitting here on my computer, it was early evening, and my neighbor called me. She tells me to look outside at the sky. So I got up and took a peek, it was literally pitch black! We stepped outside a few minutes later when we heard the wind pick up. Dust was blowing everywhere...the air had a very strange feeling to it.

I promise you 10 minutes hadn't passed by before the "gust front" blew in ahead of the storm (which was traveling north to south, very strange for the midwest). Locals and meteorologists confirmed we had 80-90 mph winds blowing through, and then a torrential down-pour with A LOT of lightning and hail. Of course funnel clouds were sighted and there was reports of unconfirmed tornados within the St. Louis metro area. Trees were snapping everywhere, debris blowing down the was quite a site! Now keep in mind I LOVE severe thunderstorms, but this one actually spooked me a bit. I have never seen one this strong. Mother nature showed us her ass last night to say the least.

A half a million people are without power, and we are in a record heat wave.... not a good combination. The Missouri National Guard has been officially called in to evacuate those without power in the area, to take them to "cooling centers".

This has been called the worst storm to hit the area for nearly 100 years. This was actually a "Supercell" storm - which is considered the worst possible. See below:

"A supercell is a severe thunderstorm with a deep rotating updraft (a mesocyclone) [1]. Supercell thunderstorms are the largest, most severe class of single-cell thunderstorms. It has been argued that there are really only two types of thunderstorms: supercell and ordinary, though some have four classifications: single-cell, multi-cell, squall line, and supercell."

Say a prayer for those without power, because with the dangerous heat, they are in a very bad situation.

Here are some articles about the storm and some pictures.

The fisherman in me had to show you this. It was caught by a man in Lubbock, TX. The human like teeth are very freakish. So far, officials are not exactly sure what kind of fish it is, although its been suggested that it's a "Pacu", which originates from South America.

Unbelievable- but not surprised.
Tuesday, July 18, 2006

When I heard about this......well, honestly I don't have words to describe the feeling I had. Disgust maybe? Here's the short version:

We have numerous American citizens in Lebanon at the moment, and of course they want to be evacuated. Rightfully so. The slow pace of the American evacuation was embarassing itself, let alone the fact that it would have cost around $3,000 dollars per person to get evacuated by helicopter, and regular commercial rates if evacuated by plane or ship. So these poor Americans over there who are scared shitless, now have to worry about coming up with some major dollar amounts to get out of a warzone?!?! It made me sick. The first thing on my mind would be to get our people out of there as quick as possible, and worry about the money later.

So you mean to tell me that a country that wages a $300 billion dollar questionable war is worried about collecting airfare from American citizens trapped in a damn warzone???? Now I want to puke.

As I am writing this there is actually breaking news stating that the fees will be waived. As good as this news is - it never should have been an issue.

Bush and Blair: Live

The moment I heard about this I went to to watch the video, and listen to Bush and Blair chatting freely on an unknown open mic about the middle east. I must say it was quite fulfilling! I have always wondered what big shot leaders sound like behind the scenes. It's pretty much what I expected, but it was still cool to hear them talk like that. I loved the part towards the end when Blair noticed the mic was on. "whoops!".

You can find the article here.

Also here is a link to the full transcript.

It's so hot!
Sunday, July 16, 2006

Thought I would show you how hot it is in my area. What you see there are actual temperatures. The heat index, or "what it feels like" is well over 100 degrees every day this week.

One Red Paperclip

I know I'm a little late on this topic, but this truly amazes me everytime I hear about it. I will ask the question that everyone asks when they read about this - "Why couldn't I come up with that?" Read about it here.

History of Hezbollah
Since Israel vs. Hezbollah is a very "breaking news" sort of topic, I decided to post a link to the history of Hezbollah

I knew who they were, but found some interesting facts in this article. Check it out for yourself.

Tel Aviv on Alert
Caught this on Drudge Report this morning....Tel Aviv on Rocket Alert

I can't imagine whats going to happen if rockets make their way into Tel Aviv. Israel will flip out, and probably turn Lebanon into a big pile of sand. (Like they are currently doing).

Just wonder when this will wind down. Is there potential for a bigger war involving more countries? I bet within the next week, someone else gets involved. Guess we'll have to wait and find out.
